The current configuration file contains both application configuration and application state.

It would be good to separate these, so that e.g. configuration can become read-only.

Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
